Autism Hour

In August 2018, TrustFord were delighted to launch a weekly ‘Autism Hour’ from 10am – 11am every Thursday across all our dealerships in Mainland UK and Northern Ireland.  

It’s an initiative that aims to make our dealerships as accessible as possible to people with autism and their families and friends, giving them a time and a place to feel safe, while raising awareness of autism and its specific requirements.

Research from the National Autistic Society has shown that 64% of autistic people avoid going to the shops as they find the noise and light overwhelming, as well as feeling socially isolated due to a lack of public understanding of autism.

By not adapting retail environments to make them autism-friendly, more then three million customers are being excluded from shops across the UK and Northern Ireland.

Autism Hour was set up to resolve this by promoting simple steps businesses can take to create a more autism-friendly world.

During Autism Hour, our TrustFord dealerships will make changes to their environments to make them more accessible to customers with autism. These include:

  • Turning down music and other noise such as tannoy announcements and workshop noise
  • Dimming dealership lights
  • Training is also given to colleagues to ensure they know how to best serve customers with autism

We are proud to continually take part in and support the National Autistic Society’s nationwide annual initiative, Weekly Autism Hour, becoming the first automotive company to do so.

When is the TrustFord Weekly Autism Hour?

The TrustFord Weekly Autism Hour runs from 10am – 11am every Thursday, helping to create an autism-friendly customer experience.
